Density is MASS divided by VOLUME. It can also be defined as the amount of mass per unit of volume.

UNITS FOR DENSITY ARE: g/ml or g/cm3

To find the mass of an object I place it on the balance. Our balances measure in grams.

To find the volume:

of a rectangular prism

you take the length x the width x the height (l x w x h)

of an irregular shape

1) fill a graduated cylinder with enough water to cover the object
2) read the cylinder and record
3) place the object in the cylinder and read the volume again
4) subtract the two volumes to get the volume of just the object

UNITS FOR VOLUME ARE CENTIMETERS CUBED OR MILLILITERS (mL)

REMEMBER MASS DIVIDED BY VOLUME EQUALS DENSITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
